From Phnom Penh to Nha Trang Two countries One unforgettable ride
Tour introduction
The Road to Vietnam is a 14-day cross-border motorcycle adventure beginning in the energetic Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh and finishing beside the sea in Nha Trang, Vietnam. It is the natural companion to our Road to Cambodia tour, but it follows a distinctive Cambodian route before continuing through the mountains, villages and coastline of central Vietnam.
The journey begins with a guided exploration of Phnom Penh before we ride south to the coast and the relaxed towns of Kep and Kampot. From there, we turn inland through rural Cambodia, Kirirom National Park, Kampong Chhnang and Kampong Thom before reaching the temples and nightlife of Siem Reap. An included international flight carries the group to Da Nang, where a second fleet of motorcycles awaits for the Vietnamese stage of the adventure.
From Da Nang, we ride south through lantern-lit Hoi An, the central coast and the remote mountain country around Mang Den. Sweeping passes, jungle roads, farming villages and spectacular ocean scenery eventually lead us through Quy Nhon and Tuy Hoa to the final destination of Nha Trang.
As always, we ride beyond the map. This fully supported tour is designed for experienced riders, while pillion passengers are also welcome. The route combines good paved roads with selected country backroads and easier unsealed sections, supported by our experienced guides and crew in both countries.

Day 1 Phnom Penh City Tour
Welcome to Phnom Penh, the starting point of our cross-border adventure. After breakfast, we board tuk-tuks and head into the city to understand both Cambodia's modern energy and its difficult recent history.
Our guided day includes Choeung Ek, commonly known as the Killing Fields, followed by the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, the former S-21 prison. These are confronting but important places that help explain the resilience of the Cambodian people. Later, we return to our centrally located hotel to relax before meeting again for a sunset river cruise enjoy a feast from the BBQ grill & chilled beverages. as we cruise along the Tonie Sap and Mekong River. with an epic back drop of the Phnom Penh city skyline.
Day 2 Phnom Penh to Kep
Approximately 165 km
Helmets on. We leave the bustle of Phnom Penh behind and begin our ride south, using a mixture of city roads, country backroads as the landscape gradually opens into farms, rice fields and small villages.
Our destination is Kep, Cambodia's peaceful coastal retreat. We explore parts of the old City of Ghosts, where abandoned villas hint at the glamour and upheaval of earlier decades. Tonight we stay close to the ocean and a relaxed coastal atmosphere. our hotel offers great ocean views and a waterfall pool
Day 3 Kep to Kampot
Approximately 120 km including coastal and countryside exploration
Good morning Kep. enjoy coffee and breakfast with the great ocean view. todays ride has us following the coastline, stopping at a quiet beach for fresh coconuts before turning onto smaller roads to explore the countryside between Kep and Kampot.
Along the way, we visit a limestone cave and the peaceful Secret Lake, passing pepper farms, traditional homes and rural communities, after lunch we head up Bokor Mountian a twsity road that winds its way up to an old casino. keep an eye out for the local monkeys. afternoon we arrive into Kampot, a character-filled riverside town known for its colonial-era streets, excellent food and laid-back evening atmosphere. join us on a sunset river cruise and swim.
Day 4 Kampot to Kirirom
Approximately 150 km
Leaving Kampot, we ride inland through farming villages and changing landscapes toward the cooler elevations of Kirirom. This is Cambodia away from the major tourist routes, where daily life unfolds along quiet roads and village tracks.
Our journey passes the Global Village Housing project area, where a community visit or house handover may be included when timing allows. We finish at a peaceful eco-resort in Kirirom, staying in comfortable bungalows surrounded by forest, with time to unwind beside the pool.
Day 5 Kirirom to Kampong Chhnang
Approximately 190 km
We wake to the cooler mountain air before descending from Kirirom into Cambodia's broad rural heartland. The route carries us through small Khmer communities, agricultural country and landscapes that few international visitors experience from the saddle of a motorcycle.
By afternoon we reach Kampong Chhnang, a provincial town near the Tonle Sap system. Our comfortable hotel and restaurant provide an easy place to settle in, share stories from the road and prepare for the next stage north.
Day 6 Kampong Chhnang to Kampong Thom
Approximately 195 km
Today's ride continues through a patchwork of rice fields, farms and traditional villages. We keep to the more interesting secondary roads wherever possible, seeing the Cambodia that exists beyond the main highways.
Kampong Thom sits close to the centre of the country and has long been an important meeting point between northern and southern Cambodia. We arrive at a welcoming hotel with a pool, giving everyone time to cool down and relax after another rewarding day on the road.
Day 7 Kampong Thom to Siem Reap
Approximately 170 km
We ride north through changing rural landscapes and ride iinto whats known as the floating village before onwards to Siem Reap, a tourist town and the gateway to the Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world, early afternoon has us riding through the back streets of Siem Reap, our hotel is located in the centre of town, with a pool.
Check in and time for shower. afternoon adventures, hold my beer ! we jump aboard some local Tuk Tuks and headout to explore Angkor Wat. "eighth Wonder of the World" sunset has back at our hotel digs, enjoy the night markets and the famous energy of Pub street.
Day 8 Siem Reap to Da Nang
International flight and transfers
Chilled morning. enjoy the superb breakfast and coffee by the pool. explore the local markets. we have a late checkout arranged before we transfer to the airport for our included international flight to Da Nang, Vietnam. It is a remarkable transition, carrying us from the ancient landscapes of Cambodia to Vietnam's central coast.
On arrival, our Vietnamese team welcomes the group and transfers us to the hotel. We hold a rider briefing for the second half of the adventure and prepare to meet our Vietnam motorcycles. The evening is free to enjoy Da Nang's vibrant nightlife. beachfront, restaurants and city lights.
Day 9 Da Nang to Hoi An
Approximately 50 km
Good morning Vietnam. After breakfast and our motorcycle familiarisation, we leave Da Nang for a relaxed introductory ride along the central coast and through smaller local backroads toward Hoi An.
We arrive early enough to enjoy our hotel pool and explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ancient Town. Hoi An's historic trading houses, narrow lanes, riverside restaurants and colourful lanterns create one of the most memorable evenings of the tour.
Day 10 Hoi An to Quang Ngai
Approximately 120 km
We leave the lanterns of Hoi An behind and turn south through coastal countryside, fishing communities and quiet villages. Rather than simply following the highway, we seek out the smaller roads that reveal everyday life in central Vietnam.
Our destination is Quang Ngai, a lively provincial city on the Tra Khuc River with a strong connection to Vietnam's wartime history. The afternoon and evening are free to explore the streets, markets and local dining scene.
Day 11 Quang Ngai to Mang Den
Approximately 150 km
Today the road climbs away from the coast and into the Central Highlands. Twisting mountain roads, thick jungle, rice fields and distant views make this one of the standout riding days of the journey.
At approximately 1,200 metres above sea level, Mang Den offers cooler air, waterfalls, pine forests and a noticeably different pace of life. Ethnic minority communities have lived throughout this region for generations, maintaining strong cultural and agricultural traditions. We settle into our hotel before heading out for dinner and drinks.
Day 12 Mang Den to Quy Nhon
Approximately 206 km
The morning begins in the cool highlands before we descend through a succession of bends, forested valleys and remote communities toward the tropical coast. It is a superb transition from mountain Vietnam back to the sea.
Quy Nhon is surrounded by mountains and attractive beaches and is known locally for its relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Our quality hotel provides ocean views and a rooftop pool bar, with plenty of restaurants nearby for an enjoyable evening.
Day 13 Quy Nhon to Tuy Hoa
Approximately 100 km
We continue south through some of Vietnam's finest coastal country. The route combines sweeping seaside roads with backroads through fishing villages, farms and smaller communities, with plenty of opportunities to stop and take in the scenery.
By afternoon we arrive in the Tuy Hoa region and settle into our beachfront accommodation. The nearby fishing village offers a wonderful look at a simpler coastal way of life, followed by a generous local meal and cold drinks with the group.
Day 14 Tuy Hoa to Nha Trang
Approximately 99 km
Our final ride begins with the morning activity of the fishing village before we follow the coastline south. Old bridges, country roads, villages and ocean views provide a fitting final chapter to two weeks of riding across Cambodia and Vietnam.
Rolling into Nha Trang, we complete the Road to Vietnam at Vietnam Motorbike Tours headquarters. After returning the motorcycles, there is time to relax at our hotel before gathering for a final evening together and celebrating an unforgettable motorcycle journey from Phnom Penh to Nha Trang.
